The Zambia Federation of Employers has continued the dismissal of nurses by saying government set a good precedent by firing the nurses for going on strike.
Association President Alfred Masupa said firing striking workers was a good decision as it would deter workers in any institution from going on strike.
“The firing of nurses by government was a very good move and we are very happy that the government has shown the way in setting a very good precedent,” Masupa said.
“We are very happy with what government has done because now every worker who goes no strike will be fired. The dose that government has given nurses is very good and will teach other employees a lesson.”
He said: “One of our major disappointments earlier in the year was that was a very serious disconnect between government and employers and government failed to support employers who had dismissed their workers but we are very happy now that they see things more clearly.
Government has fired over 200 nurses following a strike that took place last month in which nurses were demanding for rectifying of discrepancies in the pay roll structure and also a 100% salary increment.
