500_375_site_1_rand_1300744268_prison_bars_hands_110411_b_aapHealth Minister Joseph Kasonde says there is nothing medically wrong with distributing condoms in prisons.

Kasonde said everything possible to prevent disease in prisons should be done including the distribution of condoms to inmates who are believed to be engaged in homosexual tendencies.

The Minister said views of those opposed to the distribution of condoms will be taken on board.

“There is nothing wrong to give condoms to inmates from a medical point of view because we have to give out any preventive measure available to prevent the spread of disease,” he said.

“Of course opposing views will be allowed to be heard too so that what we do is in the best interest of our country.”

There is no consensus on the possibility of distributing condoms in Zambia with those opposed saying it will fuel homosexuality while the proponents argue that there is no need to deny the presence of sodomy in prisons as sexual acts are prevalent.
