President Michael Sata has elevated Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu to Defence Minister after the exit of Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba from the Patriotic Front cabinet.
The Head of State has elevated Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula to the Home Affairs portfolio.
According to President Sata’s press aide George Chellah the changes are with immediate effect.
“His Excellency, Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, has transferred Hon. Edgar Lungu from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Ministry of Defence,” Chellah said.
“The President has also elevated Hon. Dr Ngosa Simbyakula as the new Minister of Home Affairs. Before his appointment, Hon. Dr Simbyakula was deputy minister in the Ministry of Justice.”
Mwamba resigned on Monday as Defence Minister after President Sata asked him to choose between interacting with the Bemba Royal Establishment and his ministerial position.
