Former Church of God overseer Bishop John Mambo says some people saying the MMD should not talk about the constitution should not forget that they were also part of the former ruling party.
The Chikondi Foundation leader said anybody attempting to fight the three church mother bodies in their constitution making struggle was fighting a losing battle.
“In this country you have forgotten the person that started this process it is Levy Mwanawasa may his soul rest in peace. This process started under MMD and you are saying some people should shut up because they are in MMD. Who was not in MMD?” he said.
“We started this process in 1964 the same people and they keep on dribbling as if it is Chitalu (Godfrey) when he was still playing.”
He added: “It is like when you divorce a wife and you keep on saying I left my wife because of ABCD then you have failed in life. So leave that MMD line you have just failed.”
Bishop Mambo said, “These are the people we started the constitution making process with, we were with them in Pope Square, we were with them at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross”
He said when people were hurting it was always the prophetic voice of the church that they looked to for solace.
“We are lucky that we mingle with ZEC because in many countries evangelicals do not mingle with Catholics. But here we have been together and on national issues we are together if you are a coward shut your mouth. If you are a coward and you call yourself a clergy use the pulpit,” he said.
“When people are hurting, the voice that should be heard is the voice of the church.”
Bishop Mambo said the government has no choice but to back down on their hard-line stance on the constitution that has seen the Head of State personalize the printed 10 copies of the draft constitution.
