The Police have recorded a warn and caution statement from United Party for National Development President Hakainde Hichilema for allegedly issuing alarming statements, the second in 12 months.
And police beat up UPND Chikankata Member of Parliament Munji Habeenzu as Hichilema was being interrogated.
Hichilema, whose presence at Woodlands Police station for questioning had caused a stir with the cops turning on the UPND supporters who they beat up, briefly left the premises after the security situation got out of hand but returned when matters calmed down.
The opposition leader has since been released after a statement was recorded from him for allegedly issuing a statement aimed at causing public fear and alarm.
This follows his statement alleging that government had dispatched a militia to Kasama following the arrest of ABZ leader Father Frank Bwalya.
However, Kitwe based PF Copperbelt Province former youth chairperson Chanda Kabwe was camped in Kasama leading a brigade of PF youths that marched to Radio Mano with the intention to beat up Father Frank Bwalya on air something the cadres publicly broadcast to the nation that they would not allow the ABZ leader embarrass the President.
Hichilema has been crowded with incessant charges by President Michael Sata’s government in what is seen as a move to silence him.
Prior to today’s appearance police had spiritedly attempted to arrest Hichilema on Thursday at his residence but his lawyers resisted the rushed process.
