The Zambia Centre for Inter Party Dialogue has condemned the police for their brutalizing opposition United Party for National Development cadres at Woodlands police when they went to witness the interrogation of their leader.
ZCID Executive Director Horrance Chilando said the police had been too heavy handed on the UPND cadres and should have used reasonable force.
Chilando said the police seemed to have become conditioned to targeting only opposition political party cadres.
He said that ruling party had over months run the streets of Lusaka without any action by the police but the cops were quick to act on the opposition.
Police clobbered UPND cadres including Chikankata MP Munji Habeenzu who was caught up in the fracas.
The police usually complain that they do not have enough manpower each time opposition political parties ask to hold peaceful demonstrations but turned our enmasse at the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s questioning without showing any sign of being stretched.
