United Party for National Development Vice President Dr Canisius Banda has wondered whether President Michael Sata has developed memory loss over the constitution or was just being utterly deceitful.
Dr Banda said there was not any more evidence that one needed to show that there was bad governance in Zambia.
“ON FOOLING CITIZENS [The Curious Case of THEN and NOW]: THEN ['Within 90 days...we need a new constitution...a better one...one which will control Michael Sata,” said Dr Banda of the statement President Sata made whilst in opposition.
He narrowed to the President’s new stance. “ and NOW ['...we already have a constitution...they are talking about a new constitution...we don't know about it..!' Michael Sata, Zambia's Republican President, 16 January 2014].”
Dr Banda, a qualified physician, questioned whether President Sata is suffering memory lapses.
“Is this a case of amnesia occasioned by dementia as is commonly seen in people his age?,” he asked.
“Or is this just a matter of plain and unabashed lies, holding citizens in contempt? If this was not it, what evidence does one need to see that the PF [Patriotic Front] has no legitimacy to continue governing Zambia?”
He said, “What evidence does one need to be convinced that there is bad governance in Zambia? Even the PF’s own ardent followers and members are now surely embarrassed by this charade. Mwansa Kapeya [Chief Government Spokesperson], tell me, just how does one spin such hypocrisy?”
