Three opposition political party leaders – Elias Chipimo, Father Frank Bwalya and Mike Mulongoti – have called a joint press briefing on Friday in the wake of calls for them to work together.
The briefing is set for the National Restoration Party (NAREP) secretariat at The GLOBE Building on Plot 2386 (corner Longolongo and Twatasha Roads), Fairview Lusaka.
Chipimo’s NAREP, Fr Bwalya of Alliance for a Better Zambia and The People’s Party leader Mulongoti will be holding a three-some for the first time in their political careers.
This comes amid calls by the general public, growing dissatisfied with the Patriotic Front government, for the opposition to join forces and prepare to unseat the ruling party in the 2016 general elections.
Father Bwalya, a former PF backer, has been meeting opposition leaders to canvass a strong opposition to remove President Michael Sata from office for what many see as growing dictatorial tendencies.
The former MISA Zambia president yesterday attended the MMD’s press briefing at which party leader Nevers Mumba pledged to give up the top post in the interest of opposition unity.
According to a statement, members of the media and the general public are invited to a press conference by the three Zambian political parties.
“The leaders of the parties will be addressing various issues including the need for opposition alliance,” a statement reads.
The briefing is scheduled to start at 9:00am.
