MMD Presidential spokesperson Muhabi Lungu says the Patriotic Front’s appetite for by-elections may leave some constituencies without an MP for five years.
Lungu said it was sad that in the Patriotic Front’s third year in power the country was still immersed in elections owing to the petitioned seats that the PF was taking to the Supreme Court.
Lungu said the by-elections were not only a drain on resources but also deprived the people of adequate representation.
“You see this appetite for by-elections is hurting this country, three years into the PF’s being in power we are still talking about elections that were held in 2011. Instead of talking development we are still in an election mode,” he said.
“It is a pity that constituencies like Petauke and Malambo have been without representation for months now. They are being punished because of this appetite for by-elections. Just because someone wants a majority in parliament they are ready to sacrifice the electorates’ right to representation at all times.”
