Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection says government’s continued shunning of professional advice in decision making is worrisome.
JCTR Executive Director Father Leonard Chiti said Lands Minister Harry Kalaba had overlooked advice given by the Zambia Environmental Management Council when he allowed for mining exercise in the Lower Zambezi by Mwembeshi Mineral Resources.
Fr Chiti said former Mines Minister Wilbur Simuusa had also ignored ZEMA on the construction of the Chisola dam.
He said government was insensitive to the plight of the natives of the areas where they allowed investors to displace them.
“Government has been ignoring advice given professionally which leaves the professionals toothless,” he said.
“We may gain some money in the short term but in the long term we are compromising future generations.”
