Civil Society Organizations in Livingstone have vowed not to register under the controversial new Non Governmental Organization Act.
CSOs spokesperson Norman Mubita said the NGOs from Livingstone had convened a meeting at which they had agreed not to register under the new law they termed draconian.
The CSOs have since handed a petition to the Ministry of Community Development.
Government has set February 3 as the deadline for registering all NGO under the new Act that has been met with resistance by the civil society.
The CSOs will be compelled to belong to a body that will be heavily laden by government officials and also will be compelled to publicly declare all their sources of funding.
Mubita said the PF had been against government driven regulation when they were in power citing page 42 of the ruling party’s manifesto.
