If there was ever anything that Post Newspaper editor Fred M’membe is sensitive to, it is the truth. You can tell M’membe anything but the truth.
Anybody who has dared tell him the truth has paid the ultimate price of being discredited in his paper. M’membe somehow thinks he has earned the right to shove down Zambians’ throats anything that appeases him.
Anybody who rightly calls M’membe a patriotic Front cadre, and please note that cadre in this case is polite, for his is PF zealotry. It is sure to get a bashing.
Today M’membe is demanding K5 million from his former employee Kingsley Kaswende for truthfully stating that M’membe is deep in PF hierarchy albeit surreptitiously.
This is not the first time M’membe has swung into action on his former employees that have dared challenge his bigotry. Douglas Hampande formerly of the Monitor and MacDonald Chipenzi have both received these threats.
And in Kaswende’s case, he joins the long list of many M’membe want to cow into submission. But who does not know that M’membe is a PF cadre? Who does not know that M’membe has been propping up Wynter Kabimba as a possible successor to the ailing Republican President Michael Sata?
What should Zambians do? Ignore the fact that it has been clear that M’membe is deep in bed with Kabimba and striving hard to preserve his new found puppeteer position?
M’membe still wants everyone to believe that he is running a professional organization and Zambians are supposed to applaud him. Surely, like the naked emperor Mr M’membe lost his credibility the moment he got a test of political privilege or is it corruption under late President Levy Mwanawasa.
Since Levy gave M’membe those concessions under the ostentatious days of Zambian Airways, Mr M’membe was never to be the same. You should have seen the look on his face when news broke that Levy had died. The brother was gutted but not for the death of Levy but he saw his economic interests vanishing.
Former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande provided the next surety and the story of how Magande spectacularly tumbled with the mighty Post Newspapers behind him is part of the Zambian political folklore.
Fast forward winner Rupiah Banda demanded that M’membe honours his financial obligations and the story goes on how he paid the price. Banda is even in his retirement still followed by vitriolic editorials.
Banda’s only crime was to ask M’membe to pay back his debts and his successor President Sata took the hint and has religiously helped build the M’membe Empire through business concessions that are boasting Post Courier, Post Farms, Post Construction and Post ISP. Need we state how many more companies are falling and flourishing under M’membe’s umbrella?
Check with his courier deals and for those in the know tax exemptions and you will know why M’membe hardly likes anyone reminding him of the fraud he is.
Surely has not anyone seen what undeserved positive publicity Kabimba has been receiving in The Post? Who would ever sell Kabimba’s image to anyone? Is he not a political reject?
Maybe M’membe sees himself after he was snubbed by Frederick Chiluba in 1991 when he long sought to be press aide? Surely Mr M’membe is better off paying the K14 billion without enlisting humble citizens’ aide.
Does M’membe honestly want to go to court to prove that he is not a PF cadre? But then again they say those that God wants to destroy, he first confuses otherwise we can only wish the NAKED EMPEROR all the best. As for our young man Kaswende, brace for this intimidation. You will overcome!
