Something has to be done about President Michael Sata’s new found position on the constitution. Note that it has always been known that President Sata throughout his political career has always espoused a dictatorship philosophy.
There is slowly, if not fast emerging, a belief that President Sata can do anything with his position of power. He seems to slowly believe in the mighty of the presidency.
President Sata seems to think he is running a monarchy. Has he not abused citizens whose only crime has been questioning some of his decisions?
Has not the United Party for National Development President Hakainde Hichilema suffered intolerable abuse under His Excellency and the baby cobra?
When they are not publicly tearing down correspondence from Hichilema, they are busy banding around discourse about their favourite “where is his father question?”
Has not Alliance for a Better Zambia President Father Frank Bwalya felt the full force of the state machinery for merely using a metaphor to aptly describe the president as un-advisable Chumbu Munshololwa)?
Has MMD president Nevers Mumba not suffered abuse through court cases for merely raising his voice on national matters? Was he not arrested for merely being on his way to visiting a traditional leader in Ndola?
Patriotic Front Member and former Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba is the latest in the assembly line of trumped up charges against those perceived to be anti government or rather anti Michael Sata’s mini empire.
Mwamba, popularly known as GBM, has paid a heavy price for crossing the path of the trinity that comprises President Sata, Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba and PF aligned Post Editor Fred M’membe.
While everyone including the Zambia Police knows that they are on a fishing expedition no one has seen the good sense to stop the rot. Instead the process has been drummed all the way from as high a pedestal as the Vice Presidency where Guy Scott has been the lead choirmaster of the crucify GBM campaign.
While it is so easy for PF supporters and benefactors to look the other way each time his Excellency opens his ‘venomous’ mouth to make pronouncements or angle in on his opponents it is very clear that Zambia’s democratic credentials have been in free-fall.
AND nothing could have laid it barer than President Sata’s statement on the constitution. All of a sudden President Sata is the greatest defender of the current constitution. What really happened to all the arguments that he put the Zambian electorates through in favour of a new constitution?
What happened to the roadmap laid in the PF manifesto in favour of a new constitution? Today His Excellency has the nerve to look into the camera and scream that talk about the constitution should be ignored.
But then this is the man who fanned out anti China sentiments prior to his election and true to his opportunistic self he wined and dined with the very Chinese he despised within seven days of assuming power. Today he is China’s number one puppet on the African continent.
So President Sata’s turn around should not surprise anyone. His Excellency is by the day cementing his dictatorship grip or is he just being the proverbial naked emperor?
Surely, Zambians deserve their long fought for constitution, so your Excellency should wake up or kiss your newly found sweet power goodbye in 2016!
