Feeling the heat of the Katuba parliamentary by-election campaigns, Vice President Guy Scott has stuck to the tribal sermon by saying even his appointment as second in command in had raised tribal squeals in the ruling Patriotic Front.
The Patriotic Front, who are stuck with a candidate not resident in the constituency and also not a registered voter in the constituency, have drummed up the tribal card as their campaign mantra with Scott admitting that the ruling party was rife with tribalism.
“…even when I was appointed as Vice President there was talk of tribalism that I cannot be Vice President because of tribe. Some people in the party raised the issue of tribalism but the President ignored it,” Scott said.
Scott is currently camped in Katuba drumming up support for Patriotic Front candidate Moses Chilando for the February, 25 by election.
The candidates contesting the seat are National Restoration Party’s Joseph Mushalika, UNIP’s Friday Malawo, Alliance for Better Zambia’s Patricia Mwashingwele, MMD’s Cecil Holmes, National Revolution Party’s Shakespeare Mwakamui and the UPND’s Jonas Shakafuswa.
The seat fell vacant following the death of MMD area MP Patrick Chikusu.
