Miles SampaPresident Michael Sata’s nephew, Miles Sampa, has conceded defeat in the Katuba by-elections whose official results are still held for unknown reasons but has been won by the opposition UPND’s Jonas Shakafuswa.

The vote counting in Katuba finished yesterday before midnight with unofficial Parallel Voter Tabulation showing the United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Jonas Shakafuswa winning with a handsome margin.

Sampa, who is Matero lawmaker and commerce deputy minister, was in Katuba heavily involved in vote buying and attempted rigging but the plot failed.

He has conceded on his facebook page this morning, “As in a game of football: in Democratic politics you win some…you lose some.

“My latest PVT updates indicate that all participants in the Katuba elections put up a spirited performance within relevant rights.

“However, there can only be one winner. Time for retrospection for all but on my own behalf, congratulations to UPND.”

According to the tallies, Shakafuswa has scooped the Katuba by-election with an overwhelming margin of slightly over 2000 votes.

Shakafuswa polled, according to PVT results, 4,695 while his closest rival Moses Chilando of the ruling Patriotic Front managed 2, 655 with the MMD in distant third after Cecil Homes got 646 votes.
