Artistes across the country have petitioned long standing National Arts Council chairperson Mulenga Kapwepwe to vacate her position.
The artistes who gathered at the Lusaka Play House have demanded that Kapwepwe who has served the NAC for 14 years be removed as she had lost her relevance to their aspirations.
Lead petitioner Saboi Imboela said Kapwepwe who had secured another four year term that will take her reign to 18 years should not have waited for artistes to push her removal but stepped aside on her own.
Imboela, who traces her roots in the art to her days in the music duet Shatel, said the petitioners were targeting 1000 signatures before handing over the petition to Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo.
Ironically Masebo is also battling for her survival as a tribunal set up against her seems to be driving her closer to the edge.
Imboela said the artistes were also demanding that the National Arts Council Act be reviewed.
