PF Women’s Group Rebels in Chongwe

Patriotic Front (PF) women in Chongwe constituency have said they are not proud of the ruling party anymore.

Some women said at the weekend that corruption and theft have taken centre stage in the PF.

The women said they were instructed to form social clubs where they could access development funds and other benefits, but these resources were being pocketed by senior PF constituency officials.

“We are not proud of the PF anymore. There is a lot corruption and theft. We were asked to form clubs, but when the funding for the women’s programmes, it is the constituency officials who get the money for personal erands. They demand for a large percentage as kick-backs claiming that there is need for them to get a reward because they fight so hard to secure the resources as it is competitive,” she said.

One of the women from Kapwayambale ward Rhoda Daka said the women had stopped wearing PF regalia because they were not happy with the party.

She said the women were only wearing the PF party wrappers (chitenge material) during party programmes.

“What is happening now is that the women have even stopped wearing PF material. They don’t walk around to PF meetings clad in party colours. The women in their personal clothes and only put on PF chitenge right there at the meeting and they take it off when going back home. This is how things are and it is because of the leaders at the constituency level who have demotivated the people because of their selfishness,” she said.

Daka said constituency development funds had also been abused.

She said PF women were frustrated as a result of the lack of regard for the cadres at the grass-roots level of the party.

She said constituency leaders were only using women to champion selfish agendas.

“These people are only interested in using others to get money and other benefits. Those of us who are not previleged are often used without any good benefits,” she said.

Daka said the PF women in Chongwe would find it hard to participate in future elections because there was no motivation.

She said the Anti Corruption Commission must investigate the transfer and usage of public funds in Chongwe constituency.
