Newly appointed Agriculture Minister Wilbur Simuusa says he will do better than his predecessor Bob Sichinga in the delivery of inputs.
Simuusa said he was aware that the distribution of inputs had been unsatisfactory under his predecessor and that he will place high on his top priority at the ministry.
He said securing the harvest will also be very high priority for his tenure at the ministry.
“Inputs delivery was very unsatisfactory and that is going to be my number one priority once I get to the office,” he said.
“I will also try to ensure that the harvest is well secured because we had serious problems there. We will ensure that we collect all the harvest and store it well so that it does not go to rot.”
During Sichinga’s rein as agriculture minister, there were widespread complaints from farmers over the chaotic input delivery with riots breaking out in some spots like Chipata.
Sichinga has since been dumped to the Ministry of Commerce where he previously served.
