Veteran politician Malimba Masheke says the Patriotic Front government will pay a high price for not listening to the various demands by the public like on the constitution.
General Masheke, who also served as prime minister in the UNIP era, said it was better to listen to people when they were using peaceful means to air their grievances than wait for them to adopt violent means.
He said the PF should consider itself lucky that the masses were still willing to engage them through dialogue on national issues but seemed bent on testing people’s patience.
“PF should listen to the people. They are not the first ones to hold the instruments of power nor are they the last ones. It is better to listen when people are still peacefully talking to you rather than wait until things deteriorate into anarchy,” he said.
“PF should listen otherwise the masses may be forced to use other means that may be more drastic. There is no need to be stubborn on the constitution it is a very straightforward matter that they can easily deal with and they will be remembered in good light.”
The PF has refused to budge on giving Zambian people a new constitution as they promised during their campaign for power.
