The veterinary department in Choma District of Southern Province says it will slaughter 3,000 pigs owing to an outbreak of the African swine fever.
District Veterinary officer Charles Maseka said the department had set aside about K2.5 million as compensation for the affected farmers.
Maseka said the disease had been contained but the officers were now moving to completely wipe out the disease.
The African swine fever has taken its toll on the Zambian pork
industry having first broken out in Lusaka two months ago.
