Opposition Movement for Multi-party Democracy president Nevers Mumba says demonstrations are the only language the ruling Patriotic Front will listen to Zambians on the demands for a people driven constitution.
Mumba, who confirmed that opposition political parties and the civil society met to consolidate their plan for mass demonstrations across the country, said Zambians were resolved on giving themselves a people driven constitution.
“We are left with no option but to settle for all means necessary to pressure this government into giving us a people driven constitution. We will continue putting sustained pressure until they give us a people driven constitution,” he said.
“We met as opposition political parties and members of opposition political parties and the civil society and resolved that the only way we are going to step up this fight will be by holding countrywide demonstrations.”
Government’s reluctance to release the draft constitution or state the roadmap has caused agitation among the citizenry with the opposition political parties and the civil society calling for countrywide demonstrations.
