sakwiba-sikota-zambia-reportsUnited Liberal Party president Sakwiba Sikota says the police brutality on UPND cadres in Mambwe District constitutes the highest abuse of human rights.

Sikota also challenged Attorney General Mumba Malila to rise up as a human rights lawyer and show government direction on the abusive path they have taken.

He said Malila was wiping off his legacy as a human rights lawyer and activist.

Sikota also said Deputy Inspector General of police Solomon Jere should feel ashamed to admit that he directed the police to brutalize UPND cadres.

“Dr Jere does not have the right to deny Zambians the right to assembly. This is the greatest abuse of human rights,” he said.

“People like the Attorney General should rise up especially for him as a person coming from a human rights background. He is throwing away his legacy of being a human rights lawyer and activist.”

Police in Mambwe District of Eastern Province on Monday descended on UPND cadres who had gathered to attend political rally for which the police had granted a permit but cancelled on the last minute on suspected political instructions.
