The scheme to prop up President Michael Sata’s son Mulenga as a possible heir has gone one notch higher with the Head of State directing that he be handed the mayoral seat on Saturday without challenge.
Mulenga, who was recently handed the Lusaka District chairmanship without any challenge following his initial challenger Goodson Banda being forced to withdraw at the last minute, will be the sole candidate once again thanks to a directive by the President to the PF councillors.
The position of mayor will go unopposed while eight candidates have declared interest to contest Mulenga’s current position of deputy mayor where no barrier has been erected.
Mulenga whose bid to contest the Lusaka Central seat in the 2011 elections was halted at the eleventh hour for fear of losing the seat has been fast tracked into the PF party hierarchy with the view to pave way for him to succeed his father.
