The Technical Committee on the Constitution has finally given up on government and has handed over the 10 copies of the draft constitution to the Ministry of Justice.
Committee spokesperson Ernest Mwansa said they had packed up and left the documents in the hands of government after being given up to March 31, 2014
The Technical Committee had remained stuck at Government Complex two months after completing their work had finished in the hope that the state would receive the draft constitution as per roadmap.
In November after their vain attempts to handover the document to the government failed following Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba refusing to receive the draft on account that only the President could receive it, the committee retained the copies.
However, shockingly Justice Ministry Permanent Secretary ordered them to handover the copies by March, 31 in unexplained circumstances.
President Sata has often ducked receiving the document leaving the Technical Committee in the firing line.
Widespread demands for the release of the draft constitution has gone unheeded with President Sata calling for the ignoring of advocates of the new constitution a document he was formerly a staunch advocate for.
