The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has advised former ruling party MMD members to remain calm as it is going through trying moments apparently dealing with a “sell-out” chief executive Major Richard Kachingwe.
Maj Kachingwe has allegedly auctioned the MMD to Republican President Michael Sata and has now come under siege to vacate his position.
Youths in the party led by die-hard MMD leader Bowman Lusambo have given Maj Kachingwe a one week ultimatum to leave or face unspecified action but the former diplomat is insisting to hang on to the position.
FODEP executive director McDonald Chipenzi tells Qfm that it is so unfortunate that some MMD members had decided to be selfish by trying to align themselves to the ruling party.
Chipenzi says it is not every member in the MMD that is defecting to the PF in good faith but only doing so out of selfishness.
He said if some MMD members want to work under the PF government, it will be wise for them to wait for the 2016 general elections to contest on the PF ticket.
Chipenzi has since appealed to the leadership of the MMD to reflect on a number of issues that have affected their party.
Nine MMD MPs are currently serving in the PF as deputy ministers and are on the verge of defecting to create by-election while Maj Kachingwe has admitted flirting with the PF and President Sata’s political party.
