Andrew BandaANDREW Banda says with the rate at which violent political activities are happening in Zambia, the country will be in a mess by 2015.

In an interview, the son of former president Rupiah Banda said if the situation was left unchecked, Zambia would not be different from countries such as Congo DR and Nigeria.

“Criticising the government is not insulting. So this violence is very sad, frightening. There will be no difference between Zambia, Congo DR and Nigeria. At the rate we are going, when we get to 2015, it will be a mess. It has to be stopped at all costs. It is a national issue, it is a disaster and it is frightening,” Andrew said.

He said the perpetrators of the crime were known and that there was need to round them up.

“The people that are doing this are well known, no doubt about it. It happened in Chipata, the same people overran a police station. They fired guns, they were let scot-free, even in Mkaika. Just imagine if Hakainde Hichilema was killed; it is not a UPND affair, it is a national affair. One of our citizens was killed because of politics,” he said.

Andrew said PF cadres misunderstood secretary general Wynter Kabimba’s recent statement that they must protect the President.

“That statement, the cadres understand it that they should be beating up the opposition and now radio stations will be frightened to accommodate opposition leaders.

“The sponsors of this violence must be arrested. The perpetrators of that crime must be arrested and not just giving mere statements,” said Andrew.
