Opposition Forum for Democracy president Edith Nawakwi says the Patriotic Front is using poverty stricken youths to sort out political opponents.
Nawakwi said the recent spate of PF sponsored violence against opposition leaders on the Copperbelt was a sad spectre on the country’s democratic credentials.
She said instead of employing the youths as they promised during campaigns they were arming them with weapons to harm fellow citizens.
Nawakwi said the PF should know that violence elicited violence.
She said the violence should be stopped as it was hurting the country’s image.
“The PF is using youths to propagate violence against opponents because they know that the youth are vulnerable. They promised them jobs but are now giving them weapons to harm opponents,” she said.
In the last two weeks, the PF militia wing has meted out violence on Nawakwi, Alliance for a Better Zambia president Father Frank Bwalya and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.
