Civil rights activist Brebner Changala says the threat by Patriotic Front cadres to close the Zambia Information and Communications and Technology Agency (ZICTA) for allowing online publications to thrive amounts to anarchy.
Changala wondered where the PF cadres were drawing their authority to threaten a statutory body with closure.
He said the PF cadres were becoming ungovernable by the day and should be tamed if the country is to grow democratically.
“Let PF not take people for granted because people will hit back if they push them too far,” he said.
“Where are they drawing their power from? Who is backing them? They are making the country ungovernable. How can a mere provincial party official threaten a public institution?”
The PF cadres recently announced that they will close down ZICTA if it did not close down critical online publications.
The PF has been on a crusade to clamp down online media outlets for propagating critical news in the absence of an independent source in the conventional media.
