Another version of Sylvia Masebo’s dismissal as tourism minister by President Michael Sata has emerged.
In addition to opposing the government’s decision to allow mining activities in the Lower Zambezi National Park and alleging she dissolved the Zambia Wildlife Authority board with President Sata’s blessings, Masebo is alleged to have challenged the president in the last Cabinet meeting.
The former minister, according to sources, openly told the president to run the affairs of the country better.
“She was so upset with how the President was handling affairs of the country especially Cabinet meetings. She then stood up and told him, ‘sir, I had the privilege of serving under late president Levy Mwanawasa and this is not the way he ran affairs of the country. The President then told her ‘if that’s the case, you follow him to the grave. In no time, Masebo was fired,” the source said.
President Sata allegedly operates Cabinet meetings like a chicken run disregarding order and ignores attempts to conclusive discuss issues by issuing disparaging remarks against his own ministers.
The source also said sports minister Chishimba Kambwili was also on his way out.
“The President is not happy with him. It’s a matter of time,” the source added without giving specifics although other sources indicate Kambwili is perceived rebellious and would oppose attempts to anoint either PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba or Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata to take over the ruling party in an event President Sata’s ill health hampers him from contesting the 2016 polls.
Kambwili enjoy some level of popularity on the Copperbelt, better than most of the PF top officials, largely due to his ‘call boy’ style of handling issues.
