Expelled MMD National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe has filed for an injunction to restrain party president Nevers Mumba from operating as the organisation’s leader.

Maj Kachingwe, at the weekend hounded out of the party secretariat after he staged a lone coup de etat of Mumba, is now seeking legal redress over a matter he should have taken care of during the election process.

There were some ugly scenes at the MMD secretariat in Lusaka on Saturday as Maj Kachingwe held a press briefing to invalidate Mumba’s election held on May 25 following what he termed as latest information from Registrar of Societies.

Maj Kachingwe, acting like a mercenary and is heavily funded by President Michael Sata to create confusion and destablise the opposition, was in the process of his briefing manhandled and thrown out of the secretariat.

Mumba later appeared at the secretariat and expelled Maj Kachingwe pending ratification by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Maj Kachingwe, who is now enjoying 24 hour protection from the Zambia Police on President Sata’s orders, contends in his affidavit that a search at Registrar of Societies indicates Mumba is still president of Reform Party.

He further argues that Mumba was suspended from the party and his readmission was done in an improper manner.

Mumba served as Republican vice president under the leadership of President Levy Mwanawasa and later was appointed as High Commissioner to Canada by Rupiah Banda.
