MMD president Nevers Mumba says his party will field a candidate in Mangango Constituency when the by-election is held next month.
Mumba said calls by district officials that they back the opposition UPND were ill founded and would not be heeded.
Kaoma MMD Youth District chairperson Kenny Ndumba has asked the party to back the opposition UPND but Mumba said the official will be disciplined.
“The only organ in the party that can decide whether to field a candidate or not or support another party is the National Executive Committee. If he felt very strongly he should have forwarded that concern to the provincial committee,” he said.
“We are still very strong everywhere and will field a candidate in Mangango.”
The Mangango seat was recently nullified by the Supreme Court and elections are set for August.
