CatholicsThe Arch Bishop of Canterbury is expected in the country today for a three day visit that will see him chair the 2016 Anglican Consultative meeting at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Arch Bishop Welby is accompanied by his wife Caroline and will also head to the Copprebelt where he will celebrate mass at St Michaels Church in Kitwe.

The Anglican Church recently were in the global limelight as they joined in the controversial gay marriage topic that has proved highly divisive with a law allowing gay marriage passed in England last year.

Queen Elizabeth II officially approved the gay marriage law in July 2013, after the bill passed the parliament. The Anglican Communion spoke out against the bill, arguing that changing the definition of marriage will not be good for society.

In February this year, the House of Bishops of the Church of England issued a statement on same-sex marriage, acknowledging that not everyone in the church agrees on how to handle the controversial issue.

The debate often surfaces in Zambia with no clarity in its definition.
