Enyeam.a NigeriajpgThe African World Cup dream will be on the line today with the two remaining flag carriers taking to the pitch in monumental fixtures that could end African interest, at least on the pitch in the Brazil showpiece.

Nigeria will tackle France in the day’s first kick off while Algeria will have a mountain to climb when they face Germany.

So far three African teams have tumbled after the group games and the two remaining teams will have to be at their best.

The highlight of the 2014 World Cup from an African perspective has been the landmark achievement of having two African teams make it beyond the group stage for the first time as only one African team has negotiated its way beyond the first round.

Africa is still in the chase for a first ever semi final appearance with three teams holding the quarterfinal appearance with Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2012).

So far four teams are through to the quarter finals in hosts Brazil, Colombia, Netherlands and Costa Rica.
