The United States Embassy in Lusaka yesterday presented a birthday wish to a Zambian woman born on that country’s Independence Day anniversary which falls on July 4.
In Zambia, the mission held a celebration yesterday and invited Alice Chimbini to join in the celebration which is also her birthday.
Below is the message from the Embassy and the letter which granted Alice her birthday wish.
It’s the 4th of July!
Happy birthday to the United States and also to our Zambian friend Alice Chimbini!
We were delighted to celebrate with Alice at our National Day party. Pictured here, Chargé d’Affaires David Young wished her a year full of success and happiness. Below is Alice’s letter, letting us know about the shared birthday. Happy birthday to all the 4th of July babies!
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
My name is Alice M Chimbini and I was born on the 4th of July.
I always have this idea of waking up one day and getting an invitation from the White House/American Embassy to join in the National Day Celebration and seeing the faces of my siblings who opted to be born on other dates and months of the year.
I picture the whole 4th July parade- everyone dressed in white, red and blue. I feel am part of the greatest nation in the whole world (Land of the Free, Home of the Brave).
A country which offers equal opportunities for all and most of all a country which portrays so much patriotism in times of disasters and tragedies and all the time I think of Zambia emulating this very important and most extraordinary quality in a country.
As I grow older- this email is part of my Bucket List that is – joining you and the rest of the world to celebrate (our day) is one of them followed much much much much later by Bungee Jumping and Sky Diving.
If I don’t get a reply- its all good at least I have sent this email and will not keep wondering on the “what ifs”.
And whoever is reading this please good day as well as a good laugh. Our day is next week Thursday!!!
