President Michael Sata’s nephew Miles Sampa has hired former Zambia Daily Mail managing director Anthony Mukwita to discredit Zambia Reports following a series of expose revealing alleged corrupt transactions by the Head of State and his son Mwango at Finance Bank.
President Sata’s personal account and that of his son Mwango held at Finance Bank have shown suspicious transactions allegedly made by individuals scratching his back in return for lucrative road contracts awarded to them.
The revelations have not gone down well with the PF establishment and Miles Sampa has covertly emerged to defend his uncle through a newly established newspaper which is also online.
Sampa, who is Matero member of parliament, also worked for Finance Bank and his last posting before the 2011 elections was Head of Treasury. He is accused to be among senior Finance Bank officials that were leaking private bank accounts of late president Levy Mwanawasa.
Using their newly launched newspaper called Zambian Witness which is also online and is being managed by Mukwita, Sampa has come in full swing to defend President Sata and Mwango’s accounts saying there is nothing sinister in the transactions as revealed by Zambia Reports.
Mukwita was fired from the Zambia Daily Mail after forcing himself to the top of the company before his short journey to the top turned into a loud fall from grace in the ruling Patriotic Front wrangles.
Below is the article Sampa and Mukwita have published in their Zambian Witness
KNOWN OPPOSITION-LINKED FINANCE BANK STAFF LEAK SATA’S BANK STATEMENTS PRESIDENT
Michael Chilufya Sata and his son Mwango have had their bank statements to their personal accounts at Finance Bank Zambia leaked to the public by opposition-linked and disgruntled staff. The known staff that this site will expose on Monday.
There is however nothing extraordinary or illegal in both accounts, much to the disappointment of the opportunists. In Sata’s account denominated in US Dollars, the President made a number of $5,000 cash deposits over a period of one year.
The cash deposits were made by his personal secretary, Mrs Brenda Zulu who has been working for Sata at Farmers House since 2004. It is in this same account that Sata deposited the $100,000 in 2006 when he was in the opposition, and was charged by Drug Enforcement Commission’s Money Laundering Unit but he won the case outright. As for his son, Mwango, Sata opened the account for his son’s educational purposes. Mrs Brenda Zulu deposited about K25,000 every two months for Mwango’s school and personal upkeep. Mwango was at school in Cape Town for the last 2 years and graduated recently. He would access his account using a Visa card for his meals and logistics while at school in Cape Town.
Finance Bank staff are notorious for breaching customers’ and bank confidentiality clauses, pausing a serious risk to the entire financial system in Zambia. In 2005, the same clique of staff released the late President Levy Mwanawasa’s Kwacha account that showed huge deposits and withdrawals made by his personal assistant Alfred Chipoya. President Mwanawasa’s lawyers then sought an explanation from Finance Bank and it is believed Sata’s lawyers are also drafting letters to the bank. The known staff in this habit will be exposed on Monday.
