Vice President Guy Scott has given the clearest indication that the constitution making process will not be addressed anytime soon by saying the process is ongoing.
Scott, who was speaking during the last Vice President‘s Question Time session in this session of parliament, said the draft constitution will have to wait until it is presented before cabinet for consideration.
The Vice President was responding to a question from Lubansenshi Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka who caused laughter in the House when he asked the PF government to give the people a new constitution as they were about to bow out of political life.
Question: Patrick Mucheleka (Lubasenshi MP):
Now that it has become abundantly clear that very soon most of you will be bowing out of public life. Would you at this stage consider stop procrastinating and finding it fit to facilitate for a people driven constitution?
So that those Zambians who qualify even for the office of the Presidency will be allowed to indeed participate. When are you considering facilitating for a people driven constitution before you finally are out of political life which is certainly inevitable?
Response: Guy Scott: it is a bad idea to preface a question with the allegation that we are about to bow out. We have about two years and four months before we will even consider bowing out.
And the process of the constitution as I have answered many times is on-going, it will come to cabinet for consideration and I have explained numerous times on the floor of this house.
Mr Speaker one we are not bowing out for a long time and two the process with the constitution is on-going as I have explained many times.
