People’s Democratic Party President George Mpombo says fingers will be burnt over the mishandling of the illness and whereabouts of the President.
Commenting on the media blackout of the truthfulness of the state of health and illness of President Sata, Mpombo said it was a shame that government opted to release still pictures which had cast further doubt on the whereabouts and state of health of the Head of State.
He said relying on the internet as the official modicum of communicating with the general public was not effective as most Zambians had no access to internet.
“The statement of fact is what we need to clear the air. Why has government kept so quiet if indeed the Head of State has arrived from Israel and they do not say that he has arrived?” he said.
“Now they just give us pictures, which is not enough, the people of Zambia want to hear a statement from the President. How many people in rural areas have access to photos on the internet.”
He further said: “People of Chiwala and Kafulafuta have got no access to internet the only way they can be informed is through information from government which can be translated in the nine languages on television.”
The health status and whereabouts of President Michael Sata has remained a topical subject following the information from the official mouthpieces with information being churned out falling short of credible sources.
On Monday, State House released still pictures of President Sata allegedly chairing a cabinet meeting however given the pomp that has surrounded previous cabinet meetings with cameras rolling at will there has been doubt over the authenticity of the pictures.
