Supporters of Zambian President Rupiah Banda dance with party flags in the capital Lusaka as he launches his 2011 election campaignOpposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy youth chairperson Howard Kunda says the people of Zambia miss the former ruling party after having learnt a lesson from experimenting with the Patriotic Front.

Kunda said the MMD had a strong reservoir of brainy individuals who had remained attractive in their careers prompting the PF to poach from the former ruling party.

He said after experimenting with the PF, Zambians were ready to return to the tested leadership of the MMD.

Kunda also said President Sata had previously phoned him on the possibility of joining the ruling party on the promise of a ministerial reward.

“The people of Zambia have reached a conclusion that the MMD is the best party, they miss the MMD and have said that we are not going to be experimenting anymore,” he said.

“The message I am getting wherever I have gone is that they are missing MMD and they want MMD under the leadership of Dr Nevers Mumba.”

He said the MMD retained a strong human resource reservoir that was unparalleled in the current political set up.

“The brains are still there in MMD that is why even the President himself His Excellency Michael Chilufya Sata has said it repeatedly that the brains are in MMD and that is why he has been poaching from MMD,” he said.

“That is why I am sure he also approached me, he phoned me so that maybe I could join them but what I have seen is that PF’s agenda is to weaken the opposition so that they can remain there for a long time.”
