A leading civil society organization Operation Young Vote has advised the Anti Corruption Commission not to wait for elections to be nullified before they can act on criminality.
Chairperson Guess Nyirenda said that it was sad that the ACC was only seen to be active after the elections had long been nullified.
Nyirenda said it was important that cases were dealt with at an early stage to avoid wastage of resources.
“I think they must be on the ground and whatever they hear about purported corruption they must be able to visit them before we go deep into the campaigns and elections,” he said.
“…so that such candidates can be put on record before the elections are even conducted, that is what we would like to see. We would like to see a very proactive Anti Corruption Commission and not that relaxed and just comes when resources and monies are already wasted. “
