Patriotic Front (PF) cadres have started an operation where they are using force to grab land from legal owners in Lusaka’s Chalala area.
The cadres have mobilised themselves to grab land from Zambians that acquired plots through the Ministry of Lands.
The cadres who were found demarcating the plots 70 metres by 70 metres said they had suffered too much during the MMD government and that it was time for them to make money.
They have vowed never to be interrupted in their supposed land grabbing exercise because their party was in power and they needed to benefit from the support they offered in last year’s elections.
The cadres are also threatening to grab part of the land belonging to the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) and share it among themselves. The exercise seem to have had the blessings of some senior party members at provincial level.
Since then some residents on the area are wondering what kind of behavior the ruling government was promoting through their cadres.
“We thought that this behavior was no longer tolerated but we are now surprised. We paid a lot of money to acquire this land and we cannot allow a situation where some cadres just come and grab our land by force,” one resident explained.
