Delegates Endorse 50+1 Vote Threshold in New Constitution

Delegates at the Constitution consultative convention in Kabwe have endorsed the proposal by the technical committee drafting the constitution to have the50 per cent plus one vote threshold for a wining president.

The delegates observed that the winning candidate for the position of Republican President should be popularly elected.

The delegates deliberating the resolutions from all districts of Central Province unanimously endorsed Article 75 [1] which states that: “Elections to the office of the President shall be conducted directly on a basis of majoritarian system where the winning candidate must receive not less than 50 per cent plus one vote cast and in accordance with Article 99.”
