After Zambia’s Copperbelt was recently hit with an acute mealie meal shortage prompting the hike in prices, the country capital – Lusaka – is now not being spared as the crisis begins to spread countrywide.
On the Copperbelt, the price of the commodity which is the staple food sky-rocketted from K45, 000 to between K75, 000 and K80, 000 for a 25kg bag.
In Lusaka, however, the prize is not as high as Copperbelt but has still received an upward adjustment of between K15, 000 to K20, 000. The commodity, which was selling for K40, 000 is not trading for between K60, 000 and K62, 000.

In Solwezi, the emerging copper belt and Kabwe, mealie meal prices of have also gone up with no 25 kg bag of breakfast selling below K60, 000.
The Zambian Watchdog reports that Kabwe has been badly hit with the mealie meal and fuel crisis.
