The following statement was distributed by the National Restoration Party (NAREP) of Copperbelt Province.

The National Restoration Party of the Copperbelt is deeply concerned and troubled about the on going protest by the underground miners of contracting firms for almost two weeks at Konkola Copper Mines – KCM.

Before the the protest spreads the tentacles of its negative impacts too far on our already troubled economy, let the key players take stock of the adverse effects it has inflicted on production vis-a-vis the revenue for the company KCM and the country.

National Restoration Party (NAREP) would like to see to it that a long lasting solution is found and implemented as soon as possible because the days spent on protesting are an enemy to production and development of our country. If not stopped now, it is a time bomb likely to have a huge antagonistic impact and subsequently drift into a vicious circle.

We call upon the government through the Ministry of Labour; imploring and urging all the concerned parties to engage themselves in a resolute dialogue now for durable solutions that would satisfy all the parties involved.
