The illusion of progress on the constitution making process is finally hitting home with the grand coalition openly declaring warfare with Justice Minister Edgar Lungu after he said that the constitution making process may stall development.
Lungu, who initially showed some will in getting the process moving, has been going back on his words attracting criticism from the grand coalition.
Coalition spokesperson Father Leonard Chiti said Lungu’s statement had baffled the constitution making process advocates.
“As a grand coalition we are extremely disappointed with the statement from the Justice Minister, he is beginning to sound like his predecessor Wynter Kabimba,” he said.
“It goes against the spirit of dialogue that characterized the meeting we had with the Justice Minister where he assured that he was committed to the process but to listen to him now we are left with doubts as to the seriousness of his commitment.”
Fr Chiti wondered whether Lungu was playing politics or just careless in his sentiments.
“We are beginning to wonder if he is playing politics by saying one thing in public and another in private.”
The constitution making process has been dragging on since the Patriotic Front government came into power despite it having been among the priority subjects in their 90 days action plan.
