Namulambe: “I Respect My Decision, I also Reason”

Namulambe MMDFormer Mpongwe Member of Parliament Gabriel Namulambe who defected to the Patriotic Front yesterday says he respects his decision.

Namulambe’s resignation from MMD is being viewed more as an opportunist decision than one based on principal or ideology since he has been promised a Cabinet post if he retains the seat in March next year.

The former minister of works in the MMD has told his friends on facebook that he also reasons.

Namulambe said; “thanks to all those supporting my decision and thanks to those not supporting my decision. I’v made a decision after consultations and I respect my decision. I also reason. Failing to make a decision is also failure. Bye for now on fb.”

The decision by Namulambe will cost the country close to K6 billion in a single bye-election and stakeholders have condemned the move.

Foundation for Democratic Process executive director says it is clear that Namulambe wants to “fatten his pocket” and not the interests of the Mpongwe electorates.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Chipenzi said Namulambe has selfish interests because up-to date, Mpongwe constituency is not yet developed.

And the Zambia Rainbow Coalition is disturbed and appalled by the continued conduct of the men and women we send to Parliament. They have sold out to the status core by practicing politics of the stomach in disregards to the tenants of democracy.

But former Anti Voter Apathy (AVAP) Project executive director turned PF job-seeker Bonny Tembo says the defection of MMD chairman for election should serve as a lesson to the MMD on the need to urgently resolve its internal conflicts.

But SACCORD programmes officer Obby Chibuluma says there is no justification about Namulambe’s decision to leave the opposition for the ruling party.
