Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda is this afternoon expected to present the national budget in parliament.
Chikwanda, who has lain low amidst a smear campaign against him from Fred M’membe’s Post Newspapers that has taken their loathe for him to unprecedented levels by pre-emptying the budget presentation that they have been running excerpts long before it has been officially presented, will be expected to lay the economic agenda of the country for the next 12 months.
Many will be keeping their fingers crossed over the wage freeze and the recruitment and wage freeze while education and health enthusiasts will be looking out for the figures for their allocation.
With so much talk about the chaos in the mining sector where the VAT refund has been a topical subject, Chikwanda will be expected to shed some light on the matter.
Last year Chikwanda presented a K42.2 billion budget and the figure could rise significantly in the 2014/15 budget.
