The Southern Africa Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has described as opportunistic MMD Members of Parliament who are resigning from the party to join the ruling Patriotic Front.

SACCORD Information officer Obby Chibuluma has since urged opposition Members of Parliament to exhibit high levels of discipline and adhere to the aspirations of the electorates.

Mr. Chibuluma says the voters have entrusted parliamentarians to speak on their behalf in the National Assembly without fear or favor.

Mr. Chibuluma says it is therefore important for Members of Parliament especially those from the former ruling party to exercise some discipline and serve the interests of the people who elected them in office.

He says the ongoing trend where MMD parliamentarians are crossing the floor to the ruling party is a risk to the country’s democracy.

Mr. Chibuluma observes that resignations and subsequent joining of the PF by MMD MPs is an indication that they are advancing selfish and personal interests.

He says such leaders do not deserve a second chance in office as their intentions are not for the benefit of the electorates.

MMD chairman for elections Gabriel Namulambe yesterday ditched the MMD for the ruling PF and thereby creating another Parliamentary by-election for the now vacant Mpongwe seat.
