It is mischievous for anyone to insist that Dr. Mumba is still president of Reform Party when the Electoral Commission of Zambia and Registrar of Societies is aware that the party was dissolved in 2008, says former party secretary general Colonel Newstead Nyirongo.
According to his press statement, Nyirongo says the party wanted to form an alliance with MMD in 2007 but that in 2008, the party National Executive Committee resolved to allow individual members of the party to join other parties and dissolve the Reform Party.
“Following the discussions with MMD president then, Levy Mwanawasa, it was advised that instead of Reform Party going into an alliance with MMD, individuals should be encouraged to join in their own capacities.”
“Subsequently, Dr. Mumba resigned from Reform Party in 2008 and soon after rejoined MMD. All these developments were communicated to the Zambia Center for Inter party Dialogue and the Electoral Commission of Zambia,” he said.
Col Nyirongo said the Registrar of Societies was informed about the development in 2009.
“The Registrar was written to in 2009 advising him that the 2009 retains would by resolution be the last and thereafter Reform Party would stand dissolved. It is therefore mischievous for anyone to insist that Dr. Mumba is still president of Reform Party when facts state otherwise,” said Col Nyirongo.
