The case in which former Communications and Transport Minister Dora Siliya is facing two counts of abuse of authority of office scheduled for continued trial today failed to take place due to an adjournment.
The matter which is before Chief Resident Magistrate Joshua Banda was adjourned after both parties agreed to take the matter to January 21, 22 and 23, 2013 for continued trial.
In the first count, Ms Siliya is alleged to have directed the cancellation of a duly awarded tender for the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of the Zambia Air Traffic Management Surveillance Radar System to Thales Air Systems SA.
In the second count Siliya is alleged to have accepted a free offer from Selex Sistemi Integrati for the repair of a Radar head at the then Lusaka International Airport without following procedure.
And in another case, Magistrate Banda has ordered the release of exhibits upon hearing the application by the counsel for the applicants to the exhibits produced in court released and returned to the owners after both applicants were acquitted.
This is a case where a Chinese and Lebanese national were charged with counterfeiting and selling goods bearing forged trademarks.
In this matter, 32-year-old Zhou Zhiqing, a Chinese national and Abbas Makki, 36, a Lebanese are alleged to have forged Ebony Collection Trade Mark for Stripes Zambia Limited.
The order that was made available to ZANIS further states that ‘it is thereby ordered and directed that the said exhibits produced in courts namely 2,309 pieces of Ebony hair extensions 50 X23 packets of Ebony collections and 124,500 label hair extensions respectively be and are hereby released forthwith”.
