A conman has swindled agriculture minister Emmanuel Chenda out of K1 million cash (about US$200).
Chenda, who confirmed the scam, said the conman phoned him in the morning claiming to be Lusaka’s St Ignatius Catholic Parish priest Father Charles Chilinda and that he needed financial help.
He said the man claimed to be in trouble and asked for K4 million. Chenda then sent his driver to deliver the initial K1,000,000 but that the conman kept changing positions until the money was finally delivered.
The conman is also reported to have attempted to swindle tourism deputy minister Keith Mukata but that his move could not materialize.
The man is allegedly targeting high profile people as he is attempting to cash in during the festive season. Meanwhile, Father Chilinda has distanced himself from the scam saying he just returned from his retreat and has never solicited any money.
